Tendencies on our sector
We are a textile company and we are specialized in the Leather industry. Our staff are 18 people and recently we have taken the necessary steps to have a management gestion in the quality ISO 9001/2000.
It’s no difficult to see that leather goods with an important labour component have the tendency to be delocated.
This concept has been enough extend to know that it’s no necessary an analytical exposition about the total annual increasing of the items exported “made in China” on a worldwide level, or about the number of European manufacturers desapeared in Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy...etc.
What is important to say is how the internal production of this sector is developing in the European countries.
We can see as items “made in CE” are still being produced in Europe thanks to a increasing demand in specifications and technical controls and a fast updating and a constant trend. Both criteria ( Quality and Speed) allows to keep the production activity in this sector and also to keep the “know how” and the relief generation to generation.
As the speed and the quality also develop in the rest of the world through logistic operators, telecommunication systems and modern manufacture systems, new items “design in CE” are appearing so that Europe is still selling its product thanks to the selection work of the raw materials and the prototype design, in this case the management is sold and the trade culture weaken.
In any case, bearing this in mind, the part of main concern to us is better to supervise rather than being actors of the process.
Many companies have kept its turnover giving part of the business to the commercialition. This takes them to a bigger marketing action, approaching its product to more specific groups.
So more and more specifications, more control and more quality are required.
Also punctuality concepts, product presentation, after-sales service, and the satisfaction of the customer are growing in importance. In the prospect of this situation that is lasting five years ago, we write this article to bring closer the concepts of ISO 9000/2000, Total management of the quality, Systems to improve constantly, Managerial excellence...Sometimes we think that they are relevant and advisable for the sector.
Due to the whole spectrum distribution of small companies, the leather industry lives in a paradox where it’s considered that the product is a “Quality Product”, but if we go through the production line, we find some important gaps in the control of it.
We have recently introduced a system to guarantee the quality ISO 9001/2000, and despite of the work and effort we have done, we believe that is completely advisable and viable for small companies from 10 workers. Consequently, this will improve the business and relationship with our customers.
